I know my formatting here is ugly, and you can’t see much detail in these thumbnails, but I think these are worth a click. In each case, the image links to a larger version. I hope the Description link is self-explanatory.

Most of these are quality renditions of peasant life from hundreds of years ago. A few are gothic images or something else that just caught my fancy. (Authentic gothic, not modern gothic).

If you like the gothic images (as a Dungeons & Dragons player, I find they tickle my fancy), you should check out the Gothic Nightmares exhibit at the Tate Britain.

More funnies from teh bash

Monday, February 27th, 2006

From Bash.org
[Sativa] My sister earlier, got pulled over by a cop
[Sativa] He said ‘Can I see your licence’
[Sativa] And she gave him her credit card on accident
[Sativa] And he is like ‘I only accept cash’

If you haven’t read Bash, I highly recommend reading at least the top 100.

Einstein the Parrot

Monday, February 27th, 2006

Apparently you can cram more into those little bird-brains than I thought. Einstein the Parrot has learned enough phrases and sounds to carry on a pretty impressive little conversation. Usually I try to avoid stuff with sound (I figure you guys are checking this out at work), but this little clip from Animal Planet was interesting enough that I threw it up here anyway. To be more clear – this one is not going to be very interesting if you don’t have sound.

Love CRPGs, but just don’t have the time to play?

Sunday, February 26th, 2006

If you love computer role playing games, but just can’t find the time any more, Progress Quest is the game for you. This free computer role playing game has it all – interesting races, powerful classes, hundreds of interesting spells and monsters. Download Progress Quest now.

Finally, this game carries the auto combat system introduced in EverQuest to its inevitable, logical conclusion. Other than a few clicks to get started, the game requires no attention at all, essentially playing itself!

Dark online comic

Saturday, February 25th, 2006

Fell is an online comic about Rich Fell, a detective of Holmes proportions. His beat is anything but Baker Street, though – it looks to be a corrupt inner city as imagined by Dante. This is just a brief introduction, but I really like the feeling of the city and the characters. The downside is that the text is so small as to be almost illegible.

I thought it was well worth a 10 minute squint, though.

George Carlin maketh me to laugh

Wednesday, February 22nd, 2006

Did you ever wonder what ever happened to George Carlin? Me too, but not enough to go find out. I did, however, run across this page of funny carlinisms. Here are some excerpts:

  • Do infants enjoy infancy as much as adults enjoy adultery?

  • If love is blind, why is lingerie so popular?
  • If lawyers are disbarred and clergymen defrocked, doesn’t it follow that electricians can be delighted, musicians denoted, cowboys deranged, models deposed, tree surgeons debarked, and dry cleaners depressed?
  • Last night I played a blank tape at full blast. The mime next door went nuts.

Anamorphic Illusions

Wednesday, February 22nd, 2006

Anamorphic illusions, also known as freaky shit you didn’t think someone could do by drawing on a flat surface, is the art of creating a flat image that looks three dimensional and very realistic when viewed from the right angle. Julian Beever is a master of anamorphic sidewalk chalk art. He has several pictures like this one on his site.

I have seen much clearer pictures of his work, but I can’t seem to find them now. That stuff is just amazing.

If you see me running, try to keep up

Wednesday, February 22nd, 2006

Nata2.info has some funny pictures, movies, etc. Many are fairly lame, and you’ve probably seen many before, but there is a ton of stuff there, and much of it is good. Click on the bomb tech to see their complete list of funny pictures, or just browse around from the Nata2 humor page.

I’m going through a slump on good material. If you see something that you think other readers of this blog would like, let me know! Just put a link in a comment on this or any other story on the blog.

And here are some more of the better pictures. Warning some of the other pictures on the site are offensive.

Finally, here’s a pic showing hundreds of bare boobies.

Repost: Octopussy indeed

Tuesday, February 21st, 2006

The post so nice I posted it twice. This is a favorite, and I noticed an influx of new readers, so here it is again:

Octopi are a lot more kick ass than you probably thought. These pics are from an octopus killing and eating a shark – click through for the video. The “kick ass” link is a giant octopus checking out a mini sub.

Sell your crap online

Tuesday, February 21st, 2006

Frimp is a site that tries to be an online yard sale. You can browse around the stuff for sale in your area and post items for sale. It also takes advantage of its onlininess to let you watch for new items posted in your area, or post want ads that email you when matching items are posted.

Disclaimer: I am affiliated with Frimp. In fact, I wrote most of it. If you want me to die a long, lingering death by starvation, DO NOT SIGN UP. Thank you.

It has been free so far, and we would like to keep it free. We can survive off Google ads if we get enough members. With that in mind, we have a set Frimp free campaign going on. If we can get 10,000 new users (each with at least one item posted) by March 15th, 2006, we’ll assume that we can get enough members that we will never need to charge. Of course, there is no obligation if you sign up – this is not a scam to get people to sign up and then charge them! We do not ask for credit card information.

Our main features:

  • Search for items for sale near you or across the US
  • List as many items as you like, for free
  • Add pictures to your items
  • All of your items are displayed on your personal store
  • ReceiveĀ daily emails when items you care about are added
  • Print a flier to advertise your items at your workplace, store, or church
  • Create a group for your favorite online forum, so you can meet & trade stuff with members in your area

What you could do to help me is sign up and list at least one item (this takes less than 2 minutes – I timed it ;-)
Then visit the set Frimp free page and send the message at the bottom to friends you think might be interested in your stuff or the site. If you wanted to help even more, you could post the message on your favorite online forum. Who knows, you may live in the same town as one of your favorite members!
